Description of the disadvantage
State-of-the-art measurement technology with our Alicona µcmm
Describe what the advantage is
Chip breakers manufactured conventionally
Higher surface roughness
Optically, haptically and functionally rougher surfaces, surface damage e.g. due to microcracks and slag
Chip breaker UKP lasered
Surface qualities up to Ra 0,1 µm
Significantly smoother surfaces and the elimination of a heat-affected zone have a positive effect on the service life of your tools
Losing connection
With mechanical processes or conventional laser technology, they are technologically limited and there is a risk of being overtaken by competitors
Stay competitive
Benefit from the geometric freedom of the UKP laser and always use the latest technology plus expertise without investing in personnel and equipment yourself
Acceptable precision
Lack of geometric freedom and high process forces: Conventional processes do not achieve the precision of ultrashort pulse lasers, especially in hard metals and high-hardness materials such as PCD / MIKD
Maximum precision
µm-precise setup, auto-video setup and tactile measuring probes ensure the safe positioning of the chip breaker geometries on your cutting tool with UKP technology
Lack of reproducibility
The lack of networked processes and automated measurement technology often results in parts not being able to be reproduced precisely. Thermal influences from conventional laser technology also impair repeatable production.
100% reproducible production
Thanks to digital, stable processes and the connected coordinate measuring machine µCMM from Alicona, the UKP laser produces your chip breakers with repeatable accuracy

Why choose HAILTEC as a supplier
Chipbreaker for your economical tool production
Long chips are often a nuisance, making removal difficult and potentially hindering the machining process. With precisely tailored chip breakers, you can avoid these difficulties and increase the cost-effectiveness of your tool production. We have been providing cutting tool manufacturers with technological support for many years in the development and precision manufacturing of micrometer-accurate shapes and topologies. We undertake complete machining for you, including clearance angles and chip breakers. Thanks to flexible automation, we can also produce series for you with high productivity.
Comparison with conventional methods
Ultrashort laser pulses for high-hardness cutting materials
When machining diamond cutting materials, conventional mechanical processes (grinding, eroding) and even traditional laser machining reach their limits. High process forces and thermal reactions are among the causes. With ultrashort pulse laser technology, however, we can process a wide range of materials for you: from soft materials to hard metals and tool steels, as well as extremely hard materials such as monocrystalline diamond (MCD) and polycrystalline diamond (PCD).
The precise machining process has a beneficial effect on your chip breakers.
Excellent chip control
Extended service life of your tools
Smooth surface finishes
Definable chip breakage
Minimal burr formation
Flexible range of applications

Measurement: Production-accompanying and automated
Using ultrashort pulse laser technology, we create active chip breakers and chip breakers directly from the 3D model. During production, measurements with Alicona µCMM ensure precise dimensional accuracy and reproducible results. As part of our quality assurance process, we measure your parts in our laboratory using nano-precise Alicona measurement technology and provide you with a measurement report upon request.

How to score with ultrashort pulse laser technology from HAILTEC
Plus points for your embossing and punching technology
More speed and quality
Thanks to “cold” laser processing, we produce your stamping dies particularly quickly and precisely: On precision systems from DMG MORI and TRUMPF with Tolerances of +/- 0,005 mm.
Shapes directly from the 3D model
Your molds, dies, bending punches or cavities are created with the UKP laser directly from the 3D model – in just one setup and without any machining forces.
Reproducible parts
The USP laser operates with repeatable process parameters, so that one stamp is exactly the same as another. Even complex 3D shapes can be realized by the Laser in prefabricated quality.
Broken tool? Immediate service!
Stamp breakage and your machine is down? In emergencies, we produce replacements as an express service – depending on the urgency as Express or immediate service.

Frequently asked questions about chip breakers
What is a chipbreaker?
A chip breaker is also known as a chip breaker, chip guide, chip guide plate, or chip divider. It is a recess or topology created on (indexable) cutting inserts behind the tool cutting edge. Active chip breakers provide the best possible chip control, thus influencing the shape and helping to evacuate the chips. HAILTEC can incorporate chip breakers into indexable cutting inserts for clients.
How does the UKP laser score in chip breaker production?
Mechanical processes such as EDM and grinding, as well as traditional laser technology, involve high process forces and heat penetration into the material. Ultrashort pulse lasers with femtolaser beams eliminate temperature influences and produce the highest surface qualities, significantly extending the service life of your tools.
