Ultrashort pulse laser ablation
realizes µm-precise embossing forms in hard metal, ceramic and tool steel
Your contract manufacturer for ultrashort pulse laser ablation
With ultrashort pulse laser processing (UKPL) using the femtosecond laser, we create intricate 3D shapes (embossed shapes) in components and stamp blanks. Typical materials are hardened tool steel, powder metallurgical steel, or hard metal. These create complex 3D shapes such as press stamps, Embossing stamp, lettering embossers or the smallest cavities.

UKP laser ablation, the "cold laser processing"
Laser ablation
Laser ablation using ultrashort pulse laser technology is also known as “laser ablation.” In this process, the material is removed (evaporated) layer by layer without heating or damaging the base material. Using a galvo scanner, the laser beam is guided across the surface of the workpiece with micron precision and at high speed (several m/s), whether in 2D or 3D. This non-contact process is ideal for creating intricate 3D shapes in hard metal, hardened tool steels, and ceramics. Thanks to the advantages of laser ablation, the "laser as a tool" is increasingly replacing mechanical processes such as hard milling or die-sinking, as the USP laser operates with extremely high reproducibility and without tool wear. Surface roughnesses of up to Ra 0,1 µm in finished part quality can be achieved without rework.
“Cold ablation” via ultrashort pulse laser ablation is used in a wide variety of areas, particularly in embossing and punching technology, tool and mold making, medical technology, and the watch and jewelry industries.
Laser ablation with ultrashort pulse lasers is ideal for products such as:
Letter and number embossers, embossing dies, coin embossers, bending and forming inserts for progressive tools, forming plates, cutting knives and many more
